Why was musicianDB created? top

In our digital age where more and more people purchase their music on the internet and are listening to it on their computer or a mobile audio device, we saw a need to provide a place where the people working in the music industry can get the credit they deserve for the their work. All the information that used to just stay inside CD jackets, can now be conveniently placed on musicianDB and referenced by anyone, at any time!

As a musician, how can I use musicianDB? top

If you work in the music industry in any way and have contributed to an album by playing an instrument, producing, writing songs, or recording something in your studio, the first thing you need to do is make sure that those albums are in the database.

After your albums (or the ones you have contributed to) are in the database, mDB automatically creates an artist page for you that lists all of the albums you worked on right on your profile! You can then add a picture and a bio to personalize you page and you have an online résumé.

You can use your personal page to network and make contacts as well as interact with fans and other artists via the message boards.

How can studios use musicianDB? top

MusicianDB has the potential to be a very valuable resource for recording studios. When an album you have contributed to has been added to the database, your studio will have a profile page much like an artist.

Simply make sure the albums you worked on are in the system, and link those albums to your page!

What if my profile is owned by someone else? top

If you are an artist or studio trying to take ownership of your profile but the system is telling you it is owned be someone else follow these steps.

  1. Search the system to make sure that you aren’t listed anywhere else. Because some people have the same name, the system may create some duplicates.

  2. If it genuinely seems that someone is claiming to be you, contact us immediately at identity@musiciandb.com so we can look into it. It is against out terms of service and a serious crime to impersonate someone on mDB and we want to resolve issues of identity theft very carefully.

  3. Once you have correct ownership of your page, double check all the information posted as well as the accuracy of your resume and make sure everything is updated.
What is album locking? top

Sometimes information gets posted that is inaccurate or incomplete. If you have access to the correct information, simply click the “edit” button located between the album information and message boards and update the album.

Will I need multiple accounts? top

You may need multiple separate accounts with mDB depending on what you do in the industry. There are essentially three kinds of profiles you can have: artist, band and studio. You will need a seperate account to manage the profiles showing each kind of contribution.
